9. Murphy Does Monterey

Monterey, California, USA – Well, the Bear is up and around after a big weekend on the Monterey Peninsular, Robert Louis Stephenson’s “greatest meeting of land and sea…” I spent some time just contemplating it all whilst watching the sea birds fly and the waves break near the Point Pinos Lighthouse in Pacific Grove this morning.

It struck me how right Hindhaugh was with his “One-hundred-forty-seven days to Sebring – welcome to the 2006 American Le Mans season.”

Monday in Monterey – make that one-hundred-forty-six.

8. Murphy Headin’ for Monterey

North Woods of America – Murphy here, back early again, but with the season winding down and a busy weekend on the Monterey Peninsula coming up, there are things to talk about.

Petit Le Mans had its disappointments, including the loss of contenders at the start, but it sure was an eye-opener for The Bear! What a crowd! And that brings us to the first thing on Murphy’s mind. Some of those folks might have come to see the Penske Porsche perform, right? But not many, since attendance was up about in line with other ALMS races this year, perhaps a bit more. They were disappointed, no doubt.
