44. Below the B List, Pot Simmers at LB and Houston

The Bear has returned to California after a grinding trip across the continent. OK, it wasn’t exactly all the way across the continent, and when you’re carried everywhere in a comfortable canvas bag, then perhaps it’s not all that grinding, either. So, Murphy went to Long Beach (from where he and Heidi did a gallery, here), and to Texas by way of Phoenix, Arizona and Pueblo, Colorado. His friend Ronald drove to Houston it seems, since his car was in the paddock. (more…)

It was quiet for a while in the Bear’s sports car racing world. Then of course, as always seems to happen, all hell broke loose. Murphy knows the reason, of course. There was an event in St. Pete. What event, you ask? An American Le Mans Series race in St. Petersburg. Two weeks after Sebring? True. Wasn’t there an Air Show at McDill AFB in Tampa? Yup. The Devil Rays were at Tropical Field the same day? Yes, they were. Florida playing in the Final Four that afternoon? Beat UCLA. Anybody go to the race? Nope. So, having established that you probably weren’t there, the Bear offers this Heidi photo of the 8:00 PM Podium Ceremony.

The Bear will be at Miller Motorsports Park in May for sure. For the first time in a long time it seems likely that the ALMS will have thirty starters at a race that’s not Petit Le Mans and not Sebring. The return of Corsa-White Lightning seems probable, according to the Bear’s sources, as does the first start of the season for both of Solaroli Motorsport’s Porsche Spyders. Add in an entry from van der Steur Racing, and you’ve got thirty. Even more fun, sixteen of them will be prototypes (Murphy’s completely discarded any subclasses.) Of course, for that to happen, they’ll all have to survive the concrete canyons at Long Beach and Houston, won’t they? (more…)
