Deja vu

In November 2007, Murphy was reporting bad news from the Champ Car paddock. A year later – this time more the economy than the bumbling three Amigos – the IndyCar paddock is no happy place, either. Bobby lost his corn farmer sponsors, and told Ryan’s looking for other opportunities. Justin Wilson and Oriol Servia are likewise on the market. (more…)

The accusations have again been flying that we Daytona-based journalist are nothing more than puppets for NASCAR. That we report only what they want us to. That we are not objective, blah, blah, blah.

ALMS-slanted emails forwarded by the Bear have been somewhat terse recently.  Murphy suggested I answer these in a public forum to prove I am accountable. So here we go:

Q  The Grand-Am Series has been on the decline for two seasons now, and real sports car racing fans think the series is a joke. Why do you keep hyping it?

Real sports car fans? All eight of them?  Grand-Am is owned by NASCAR now, so now we have 45 million NASCAR fans on our side. Boogity Boogity Boogity! (more…)

98. Detroit 3 Reduced to Begging (Corvette Racing Soon Gone?). Not time for Primetime? (More on “a pickle.”)

By the time you read this, the former “Big 3” (now the “Detroit 3”) will have been to Washington and begged Nancy Pelosi for alms (that’s not A-L-M-S) on the order of 25 billion (more). Soon after – Friday morning – GM and Ford will release quarterly reports and it will become clear why they are on their knees. The word “horrific” was heard from insiders. Without help, GM won’t see the spring of 2009. New car development and much more will be slashed. Anyone who thinks racing programs aren’t in dire straits – whether manufacturer-supported or not – has been in a cave deeper than the Bear’s cozy digs. (more…)
