Split in the World Center of Racing?
AC tells the Bear there’s a major split at NASCAR over future of Grand-Am. A stunning amount of empty seats at Charlotte cup race has bean counters in full panic mode. Boring races and terrible TV ratings mean more bad news looming for NASCAR. But AC reminded Murphy that the greatest minds in sport – maybe in the history of the world – are in charge, so he’s not worried. The brain trust on International Speed Boulevard will figure this out and 2010 will be the best year yet for NASCAR and Grand Am. (more…)

It’s widely believed there are three sales “in the books” of the ALMS’ new Challenge LMP. Will a pair go to the Athens, Jaw Jaw, operator of Lites? Will the skier return in the third? Three more may be “close.” (You know, that 95% deal, all except the money.) Among those ‘kicking the tires’ have been Florida and California teams that could contract to operate a car. What does Jim-Bob really dislike about the Challenge LMP’s? The “low-ball” operating costs published by the Panoz Motorsports Group. (more…)

I’m writing this in the Homestead media center as I occasionally glance at the monitor to see yet another caution period in front of 80,000 empty grandstand seats. Caution is the operative word in Grandamland this weekend. The shock has yet to wear off over the arrest of one of our legendary drivers. Indeed, when I left the World Center of Racing yesterday morning, things at International Speedway Boulevard were in full damage control mode. No Lamborghini in the parking lot. (more…)
