Murphy used the word “defect” and “defecting” because those were exactly the words of the rumor as it came to the Bear. The source of the rumor said “defecting,” and meant “defecting.” That part is rumor reporting, as is Murphy’s principal charter.

As to whether there will be parallel programs (the “speculation” part) the Bear doesn’t know. If he had to guess (based on other things heard), he’d say no for AJR and yes for Level 5.

Dear The Bear–as the seer we’ve come to expect, we note the additions of AJR and Level 5 Motorpsports to the 2010 ALMS season. In your blog #153, you used the word “Defecting” and “defect to the ALMS”. The logical inference from the word “defect” would be that the two teams will be abandoning their Grand Am participation and move their respective operations to support the ALMS efforts. What do you hear? Are AJR and Level 5 leaving G.A. altogether or will they be running parallel programs in each series?

Actually Murphy, Gurney could do both the Indy 500 and the Rolex SC race at Lime Rock. The Lime Rock race is on the Monday after Memorial Day. GAINSCO would only need a backup driver in case on an Indy rainout. I know Raul Boesel did both races in 1998.
