The Winter of our Discontent

One of Murphy’s friends was telling him in the fall that this would be the worst winter in motorsports in many years. It seems he was right. Porsche works drivers with (so far) nowhere to go, de Ferran on life support (at best, see below), possible reduced programs at Dyson and Risi, rampant rumors of IRL troubles, an F1 scandal, even NASCAR cuts. St. Barbara’s wins GT Championship, other International Awards

Friday, December 11th, 2009

Murphy the Bear has learned that St. Barbara’s Greek Orthodox Church in Orange, Connecticut is the first religious institution to win a national racing championship. St. Barbara’s was honored today at the annual Porsche bun fight, known as “The Night of Champions,” at the Porsche Museum in the Zuffenhausen district of Stuttgart. Reader pdxracefan asked in a comment to Paddock Poop 145, “how much worse can it get?” Murphy says to keep reading.

Porker Plans

Is there a 2010 ACO spec Porsche? Of course there is: the 2009 GT3 RSR with a 2010 plate. Falken has one, according to driver Brian Sellers. Don’t be surprised if Sellers is joined by a factory pilot. Porsche’s running out of places to put the boys, and Porsche doesn’t want them idle. Socrates would have classed them as idle anyway, having opined, “They are not only idle who do nothing, but they are idle also who might be better employed,” and the Porker pilots won’t be very well employed in the American Le Mans Series. 139. Tony to chuck it? NASCAR exec “loses it.” Silly supercar. Stupid Rules – again. Scurrilous Schedule.

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

Though Audi’s return to the ALMS in 2010 remains very much in doubt, the company’s active engagement with the ACO over 2011 rules indicates a continuing commitment to (or at least an interest in) the sport. Does that mean a full ALMS program in 2010? Not with any certainty, since it depends on whether “commitment” or “interest” is the right descriptor. (more…)
