Murphy turned on his phone in Detroit between planes and it rang immediately. It was Connor the Beaver. “Have you talked to Myron?” he asked. (Referring to the Moose.) “No, should I?” answered the Bear. “Yup,” said Conner. The Bear was on a tight connect, so he had to wait until La Guardia to get the story.

He rang up the Moose as soon as he was off the plane in New York. “What’s up, Myron?”

“There’s a GT2 program…”

“So?” asked Murphy (Another one, or a new one? Murphy was thinking…is this really important?)

Myron broke into the Bear’s reverie, “(redacted) has a program underway in Europe…active development and testing of an ACO rules GT2 for 2010.”

“OK, that’s newsworthy,” answered Murphy.

“That’s not all,” continued the Moose. “The GT2 they’re developing is based on their GT3 car, and generally in the same performance envelope.”

“You mean….? Murphy stammered. “Yes,” said Myron, “(redacted) knows the rule set will be what has been speculated; the rules for GT2 will be similar to those for GT3, and our current GT2 cars become – with some changes – the new GT1.”

“Yup, that’s news alright,” responded the Bear. “Can I say who the manufacturer is?”

“You could,” answered Myron, “but it might be more fun if you drove ‘em crazy with your usual…”

“Be kind,” interrupted the Bear. “We could tell them it’s a car once tested – raced even – by a skier.”

“We could,” agreed Myron. “Or that it’s associated with a horse?”

“Isn’t everybody?” laughed Murphy.

Later, Walter weighed in. “That rule change, it’s what they expect at the bowtie, too. In fact, everybody  is waiting for the decision that will start a cascade of changes, affect teams and car builders…change the nature of some current programs…in one case will turn an unofficial project into an important official one. That decision is expected in three weeks.”

Elsewhere in the GT world, a friend of Murphy’s got a spy photo of Alpha Romeo’s return. He caught this team car headed to set up a new headquarters in Carolina. Alpha hopes save some budget money for on-track development by having the GT car double as a team equipment hauler.
