Tumbling Dice

I missed Montreal in favor of a trip to Vegas, where I spent a good part of my three-day junket at the craps table. I’m still trying to recoup from the Zogaib debacle, and I thought Vegas could provide some financial relief. Well, it didn’t.

And this whole racing thing has become a crap shoot. Six months ago I thought the Grand-Am Rolex Series was on the verge of dominating the road racing world … I could envision spec DPs racing at Sebring and Le Mans … and now I wonder if the series will even be around in 2011? (more…)

AntiTRUST ME

Ever since I stepped in that Clydesdale poop on the Sebring grid, things have not been going my way. My daughter was planning on attending Duke, but it looks like it will be Daytona Community College instead, thanks to Henri Zogaib.  Unless she gets a golf scholarship, or Henri finds that sack full of money I gave him to invest, it is not looking good. Even my part-time job polishing motorcycles for a friend of mine has fallen through. (more…)

Heaters and Booze

Roger’s a throwback, ain’t he? Cigarettes and whiskey. Whatever. There’s a  bit of buzz in Daytona about Penske breaking cover with the same sponsor as the series. Roger’s boys looked a little tacky in the paddock with black hand-painted over yellow. What’s that all about, Alfie?

Brings back memories

Once upon a time, a team raced in the Braselton series. It had also raced at the World Center of Racing – and won, but those were “one-off” deals. The boss looked the part of the wrench in whose shop we’d hang around as kids, or a character from the eponymic musical (the hair, at least). Incongruously, he was a wine and cheese guy (the wine, at least). (more…)
