Infineon and other places and races

There’s a rumor out there that the ALMS is “close” to an agreement to return to Infineon Raceway (Sears Point for you purists and old folks) in 2011.

Meanwhile, Oklahoma City’s council has authorized “negotiations” to obtain a 2011 ALMS street race – following in the tradition, Murphy supposes, of Miami, Trois Rivieres, Houston, Detroit, and St. Pete. More about such things from the Bear’s friends here at The Last Turn Clubhouse.  (more…)

Reader pdxracefan asked in a comment to Paddock Poop 145, “how much worse can it get?” Murphy says to keep reading.

Porker Plans

Is there a 2010 ACO spec Porsche? Of course there is: the 2009 GT3 RSR with a 2010 plate. Falken has one, according to driver Brian Sellers. Don’t be surprised if Sellers is joined by a factory pilot. Porsche’s running out of places to put the boys, and Porsche doesn’t want them idle. Socrates would have classed them as idle anyway, having opined, “They are not only idle who do nothing, but they are idle also who might be better employed,” and the Porker pilots won’t be very well employed in the American Le Mans Series. Split in the World Center of Racing?

AC tells the Bear there’s a major split at NASCAR over future of Grand-Am. A stunning amount of empty seats at Charlotte cup race has bean counters in full panic mode. Boring races and terrible TV ratings mean more bad news looming for NASCAR. But AC reminded Murphy that the greatest minds in sport – maybe in the history of the world – are in charge, so he’s not worried. The brain trust on International Speed Boulevard will figure this out and 2010 will be the best year yet for NASCAR and Grand Am. (more…)

Ka Boom
A manufacturer has been watching its engine program hit the wall lately. If the Orville Redenbacher sponsorship doesn’t work out, they’ll need to look for a change in the focus, management, and perhaps even the participants. Orville likes the popping sound and white smoke, but it isn’t a very good image for a race engine (ask the James Bond car guys). Murphy’s been told that whatever else they do, a look at the in-house ten-cent engine control system should be the first order of business. (more…)

Porker Rools?

The Bear wrote in his last Poop that Porsche had been “reigned in” by a reduction of 5 kilos, because that change to 1245 Kg reduced its restrictor – at least that was an engineer’s reasoning. Now it’s said that Porsche had 25 Kg added to its minimum weight. The illegal engine thing, you know. The Porker’s been illegal since it introduced the 4.0 engine. Fünfundzwanzig kilo? Vir lachen bie Sie! (more…)
