Mobtown
A rumor of layoffs in Baltimore Grand Prix, LLC. circulated last week but proved to be false. The Bear suspects it was an “echo rumor,” (that’s a story based on an earlier – but different – set of facts) of the February dual firing of the public relations and advertising firms. Ad firm GKV, was replaced by the Leffler Agency, Mobtown’s big agency. Baseball-focused Maroon PR, (the Cal Ripken baseball empire is their cash cow) bowed out, in favor of Edie Brown is the doyen of Baltimore PR. (more…)

The Big Speech
After hastily announcing and error-plagued 2011 schedule at Road America, Murphy didn’t expect a mea culpa, but he thought there might be an update of sorts. Like what about Road America. The track now lists the American Le Mans Series as a Saturday race, and the Plymouth Town Board has approved late-running. Why the silence? (more…)

Thank someone (S.A.?) for Peugeot. Otherwise, there’d be little of interest in this LMP1 entry. Of course, the rumor was (and Murphy is big on rumors) that Peugeot is the reason there’s no Audi, the Frog firm having nixed an ACO plan to approve a “transitional R15.”
Six cars will race in three packs as (different than three six packs), the first of which will be comprised of two Peugeots. (more…)

Crickets
Although he’s been busy with some other things lately, it’s not the only reason Murphy’s been mostly absent in October. The fact is that there’s little going on in the sports car world, which, the Bear has to point out, is news in itself (though not of the kind to put words on the page).
Eerily quiet, is how one friend described it – that coming after another insider predicted this winter would be among the most challenging for racing in decades. Murphy didn’t say “competitive,” he said “challenging.” There’s a big difference. (more…)

Duncan and Acura (or something else)
It appears that all the P2 Acuras except one of Duncan’s will campaign in Europe in 2010. If Duncan doesn’t run his, the Bear hasn’t heard that anyone else will, either. There are multiple rumors around Mr. Dayton’s plans, and they certainly weren’t all settled by a recent DSC interview. The Danbury, Connecticutt, team’s been rumored to be running an Acura LMP1, an LMP2, and a Peugeot. (more…)
