Final Score: Grand-Am 12, ALMS 0

To be honest, Murphy had just about dispaired of ever again hearing from A.C. The Bear passed along the many messages begging for the great journalist’s return. Those from northwest Florida were particularly troubling, the Bear fearing that some of A.C.’s biggest fans might hurt themselves if A.C. didn’t soon again grace these pages. So, with an immense feeling of relief, Murphy is happy to welcome the world’s greatest motorsports journalist back to Murphy the Bear’s blog.-MHB-

The storm clouds are gathering. 2012 is shaping-up as a showdown year between the NASCAR Rolex Grand-Am Series presented by Chip Ganassi and the floundering American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patron.   (more…)

Journalist’s Release Expected Next Week

Thursday, January 6th, 2011

The Bear has been concerned about the whereabouts of A.C, Guillermo, his friend’s contributions to this space strangely missing since the middle of last year. Murphy hopes that A.C.’s thoughtful (and sometimes deeply disturbing, or is that disturbed?) commentary will resume in the new season.

Special to Murphy the Bear

Motorsports journalist A.C. Guillermo is expected to be released from the Volusia County Correctional Facility in Daytona Beach early next week.  Guillermo was arrested for shoplifting at the Daytona International Speedway gift shop last fall and pleaded no contest at his hearing. (more…)

Scorched Earth

What do the Montreal Canadiens, Liverpool Football Club, and Richard Petty Motorsports have in common?  George Gillett, a scourge to all of them, or so most fans believe, and who was recently forced out of Liverpool by John Henry, also owner of the Red Sox and Fenway/Roush Racing. RPM owes $3 million Roush-Yates, and since Gillett has way more red numbers than black in his ledger, King Richard is scrambling to stay in the game. It’s tough on the King, with wife Lynda fighting a brain tumor diagnosed in February. The King will likely get through it, perhaps even field a Dodge team in the Continental Tire series and one Cup car. George’s empire might be out of options. (more…)

The Unvarnished Truth: DTM in North America

Back on July 7th, Murphy told  you about talks between NASCAR, the FIA, and the folks who run DTM. The Bear’s comments reflected  what was said at a little get-together in Daytona Beach that week. Soon thereafter, Grand Am published its “GT3 Memo,” reported in detail by Murphy’s friends over at Last Turn Clubhouse.

Now ITR – the promoter of DTM – announces that they are working on a joint schedule with NASCAR and Grand Am that would bring 12 races to North America in 2013. Some question the story, one critic writing it’s “BS,” trumped up solely by Hans Werner Aufrech of ITR. If that were so, would Grand Am President Tom Bledsoe (said to be very close to Jim France) have released a statement confirming the general outlines of the on-going discussions?  Murphy suggests you shouldn’t ignore that these talks were announced at that same reception for Grand Am and other NASCAR team owners in Daytona in July. Dyson Racing and Grand Am

Announcements have been written but not released while the last details of an agreement are completed. However, Murphy is pretty sure Dyson Racing (but not its current two drivers) to be on hand at Montreal, and yes, the Bear knows full well that’s on the same weekend as Mosport. Dyson Racing will wrap up the 2010 season involved in both ALMS and Grand Am, as they have before. (more…)
